Our variable electricity rate is the monthly Alberta market price plus a retail charge of 0.85¢/kWh. That is the whole formula. When the market price falls, your rate falls with it; when it rises, so does your rate. Big-name retailers typically add 1.5¢ to 2¢/kWh on top of the same market price. No long-term contract, and no cancellation fees on residential electricity plans.
