No Lock-In. No Catch.

What No Cancellation Fees Actually Means

🔓

No Exit Penalties

Found a better deal? Moving? Just want to try something different? Cancel your residential electricity with Bright Fire Energy at any time - fixed or variable. You pay $0 in exit fees, early termination charges, or cancellation penalties. Variable natural gas is also $0. Fixed natural gas contracts carry a $250 early exit fee.

📋

No Minimum Term

Even on our fixed-rate residential electricity plans, there's no cancellation fee. You get the price protection of a 1, 2, 3, or 5-year rate without the penalty of being locked in. For natural gas, variable plans have no exit fee; fixed-rate contracts have a $250 early exit fee.

No Hidden Fees

Our only recurring fee is a straightforward $9.99/month admin fee. No surprise charges on your final bill, no "account closure" fees. The only exit fee across all our plans is the $250 early exit on fixed natural gas contracts.

A note for business customers

Everything on this page describes our residential plans. Business plans are quoted separately, and fixed-rate business contracts (electricity and natural gas) may be subject to liquidated damages if cancelled before the end of the contract term, as set out in your enrollment agreement. Call us at (780) 779-7188 before enrolling and we'll walk you through the exact terms for your business.

Why We Don't Charge Cancellation Fees

We believe energy providers should earn your business every month - not lock you into a contract and hope you forget about it. That's why we eliminated cancellation fees on all residential electricity plans and variable natural gas.

Many Alberta energy retailers use cancellation fees as a safety net: sign customers up with promotional rates, then make it expensive to leave when those rates go up or when service disappoints.

We chose a different approach. Bright Fire Energy keeps rates competitive, provides real customer support from people in Alberta, and donates 10% of profits back to local communities. Fixed natural gas contracts carry a $250 early exit fee due to commodity hedging costs - but that's it. No hidden charges, no inflated penalties. If another provider offers you a genuinely better deal, we want you to have the freedom to choose - and we'll work to earn you back.

That's what being a locally owned, community-focused energy company means.

Common Questions

Is there really no fee to cancel?
Yes - for residential electricity. There is no cancellation fee on any Bright Fire Energy residential electricity plan - variable or fixed, any term. You can cancel at any time without penalty. Residential variable natural gas also has no exit fee. Fixed residential natural gas contracts carry a $250 early exit fee.
What about fixed-rate contracts? Can I cancel those too?
For residential electricity - yes, absolutely. Even if you're on a 1, 2, 3, or 5-year fixed residential electricity rate, you can cancel at any time with zero fees. For residential natural gas, variable plans have no exit fee. Fixed natural gas contracts have a $250 early exit fee. Business customer? See the note above - fixed-rate business contracts may be subject to liquidated damages.
How do I cancel if I need to?
Call us at (780) 779-7188 or email customercare@brightfire.ca. We'll process the cancellation and it takes effect on your next meter reading date. There's no runaround, no retention department tricks - just a straightforward process.
Will my power get cut off when I switch?
No. Switching energy retailers in Alberta is simple. Your local utility company (ATCO, EPCOR, FortisAlberta, etc.) continues to deliver power through the same infrastructure. You won't experience any interruption - the only thing that changes is who supplies your energy and appears on your bill.
