How the licensing works — and why you’ll see “Sponsor Energy”

Every energy retailer in Alberta must operate under a provincial retail licence. Bright Fire Energy is a trade name of Sponsor Energy Inc., the licensed Alberta retailer behind your service. That’s why you’ll see Sponsor Energy Inc. named on your contract and Terms & Conditions. It’s required, it’s normal, and it doesn’t change your rate, your plan, or who you call.

Yes. Bright Fire Energy is a locally owned Alberta electricity and natural gas retailer based in Whitecourt, and a trade name of Sponsor Energy Inc., which holds the Alberta retail licences (Electricity Licence #343969, Natural Gas Licence #343970).
Why is Sponsor Energy’s name on my contract?+
Bright Fire Energy is a trade name of Sponsor Energy Inc., the licensed Alberta retailer. Alberta requires the licensed entity to be named on your agreement, so you’ll see Sponsor Energy Inc. on your contract and Terms. Bright Fire is the local brand that handles your plan, rates and support.
Does this affect my rate or service?+
No. Your rate, plan, term and customer service are all set and handled by Bright Fire Energy and are unaffected. You get one bill and one local Alberta team to call.

We’re based at 4747 51 Ave, Whitecourt, Alberta, and serve residential and small-business customers across the province, including Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer and Lethbridge.
Can I cancel my plan, and is there a fee?+
There are no cancellation fees on electricity plans, fixed or variable, and you may cancel your electricity service at any time without penalty. Variable natural gas plans also have no cancellation fee. Fixed-rate natural gas contracts carry a $250 early exit fee if cancelled before the term ends.
